Dear Families: With the new semester starting on Monday, Emerald Elementary has provided some updated information regarding morning routines and behavior referrals. Morning Routine: When the doors open for students and parents at 7:55 am; students will keep their coats and backpacks on and walk directly down to the cafeteria. Those eating breakfast will line up for breakfast and the other students will sit in the cafeteria until the 8:05 am bell rings. If parents choose to wait with their child, they may wait in the sports foyer near the gym. We have been piloting this program for the past three days with teachers and staff volunteering to come in early and help out to ensure we establish a positive routine for everyone. This change in routine will make supervision and the start of the school day on a positive note. The students sitting in the cafeteria have been doing a wonderful job and it is working out well. Behavior Referrals: Emerald Elementary will now have an In School Suspension room on Friday’s for students who receive a Major Referral (Pink) or accumulate 5 Minors (yellow). When these infractions occur, a meeting will be held with the parent, teacher, principal and student on Wednesday’s to discuss behavior and expectations and then the student will do class work in the In School Suspension room on Friday. Students who are assigned an In School Suspension for Friday will report to the office in the morning to be escorted to the room with the instructor. The teachers will provide class work for the day.
