STEM is a curriculum based on the idea of educating students in four specific disciplines — science, technology, engineering and mathematics — in an interdisciplinary and applied approach. The challenge for this activity was to design and build the tallest candy tower possible that will stand on it's own! Below are some engineers working on their tower.
EMERALD ELEMENTARY HALLOWEEN PARADE & PARTY
MONDAY, OCTOBER 31 This year students will kick-off the Halloween parties with a parade through the gymnasium at 1:30 pm with classroom parties to follow. Parents and community members are welcome to watch the parade! Bleachers will be pulled out for families to watch the students marching through. Once the parade is over, family members are invited to help out with classroom parties and activities (check your child’s backpack for additional information from their teacher). Students will not be wearing costumes in school for the entire school day. Students will bring their costume in a separate bag to be put on just before the parade. Please no face-paint, sprays or dyes worn to school. Face paint must be applied by the child in the 10 minute time allotted for dress. Keep it simple so your child can be successful getting ready as independently as possible. COSTUME GUIDELINES: · No weapons (guns, knives, swords, bow and arrows etc.) · Keep it school appropriate, safe and fun for your child (all other dress code guidelines apply) If you want to see all of the activities your child is doing in gym class be sure to visit: http://ashleeeisinger.weebly.com/what-are-we-up-to
Ms. Eisinger updates her information every week. There is also a parent survey for you take part in if you scroll down. Please take the time to do the survey to help out with our Physical Education Program. BOOK FAIR
At Emerald Elementary
We have made some changes to our Book Fair so that we have a better variety for every reading level. Please consider making some time to attend the Book Fair. It is a great opportunity to find books that will encourage your child to read for pleasure. A home filled with books is one of the best ways to support your child's growing ability to read, and to succeed at school. **Note: Our annual Can Drive will coincide with the Book Fair again this year! The class that collects the most food items will win a book for each student in the class! Thank you to Officer Russell, Officer Irie and Fire Pup for taking the time out of their day to visit all of the Emerald Elementary students. Each class came down to discuss fire safety, develop an exit plan, check smoke detectors and discover what it takes to be a fire fighter. The fifth grader's squared off in the annual Fire Safety Jeopardy game with Ms. Dale's class walking away with the Fire Pup Trophy. Below are some photos throughout the day.
Last night, Emerald Elementary hosted the community Table or Treat event in the gymnasium. It was great to see the amount of families, businesses and organizations who came and took part in the evening event. Thank you to Emerald's very own Mrs. Dougherty, Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Gierke, who passed out items on behalf of Emerald Elementary.
Emerald students are encouraged to wear PINK to school on Thursday. There will be a small prize to a random student who is wearing pink. Also a reminder of the Volleyball festivities taking place in the evening. There is a JV vs MHS Alumni Volleyball game at 6:00 pm followed by the Varsity game against Big Bay. This is the last regular volleyball game of the season.
We’re brewing up a Halloween Party!
Jump on your broomstick and join us for… Table or Treat! Date: Tuesday October 25, 2016 Time: 6:00-7:00pm Location: Emerald Elementary Gym Ages: 0-12 years must be accompanied by an adult. Kids dress in your Halloween costume and “Table or Treat” from many of our family friendly area businesses and service organizations. Please contact Schoolcraft County Parent Liaison Leann Espinoza at 286-3168 or [email protected] for questions or more information. Sponsored by the Schoolcraft County Great Start Parent Coalition I made visits into the kindergarten and 1st grade classrooms today during math instruction. I noticed students working with the new math curriculum and they are progressing nicely. Below are some photos of the students and staff hard at work.
