Today, the Manistique Area School's staff joined back together in preparation for the new school year. Mrs. Boddy discussed the importance of TEAM and everyone's responsibility to help the student's in our school district. The Elementary teachers practiced our first day of school assembly, discussed the schedule, routines, math curriculum and working on their websites.
Today, Emerald Elementary Teachers spent time learning how to utilize the new math curriculum and resources. There are 4 core structures to the lessons we learned:
Emerald Elementary received a surprise visit by Linda from Family Dollar in Manistique. In her truck, was a pile of school supplies and backpacks to be donated to the students of Emerald Elementary. Thank you to all of the Family Dollar employees and shoppers who donated these items. We are in the process of organizing the items to be distributed to the students throughout each grade level. The generosity from the community is tremendous! Included are some photos of staff members and Linda who helped unload the backpacks and supplies.
It has been a busy summer in hiring some new family members to Emerald Elementary and Manistique Area Schools. We brought on a great crew for the 2016/2017 school year. Meet the new members to the team:
Be sure to stop in and say hello and welcome them to our school district! Every morning at 8:25 am, a group of fifth grade students will come down to the office to recite the Pledge of Allegiance and our new School Pledge. The School Pledge will remind us all on how we can help each other out and to become leaders ourselves in everything we do.
Yesterday, boxes upon boxes of our new math curriculum arrived at Emerald! The staff is having professional training with the new materials on August 29 with follow up meetings throughout the year.
Today, I am with a group of Emerald teachers learning the engaging, fascinating ways to effectively instruct students on the writing traits. Some of the topics we discussed thus far are: sentence fluency, voice and creating great sentence starters. This is part of a two day training in Escanaba with instructor Shirley Poulton. Can't wait to bring the ideas and teaching strategies back to Emerald!
Mark it on your calendar! Parents, families and students; come visit your classrooms and teachers on Tuesday, August 30 from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. You will also sign up for Parent-Teacher Conferences in November.
