Winter Weather RULES
Students wearing boots may play on the play structure and field. Students wearing their shoes they wear inside will be required to stay on the basketball court. Boots are defined as outerwear items placed on their feet that are not worn in school during the school day. Almost all of the children have gym shoes to wear during the day in school. Parents please remind your child to keep a pair of shoes at school. Snow pants: When snow is on the ground students will need to wear snow pants to play on the play structures and field. If a student does not have snow pants, they are to remain on the basketball court. Snow Plow Snow Pile: during the course of winter there will be a large snow hill on the basketball court. At no time are students allowed on the hill. Recess will be outside every day UNLESS the wind chill is 0 degrees Fahrenheit or colder. The temperature will be based on The Weather Channel app from the phone of the aides on duty. When checking the Weather Channel on your computer make sure the website is "refreshed" to include the most up to date temp. Please have students bring shoes to wear inside the building during the school day and for gym. Many students are just wearing winter boots to school and then have them on all day. This is uncomfortable for students when trying to learn in addition to tracking wet snow into the classrooms. Students in grades 1-5 will be celebrating Valentine's Day in their classrooms this Friday, Feb. 10. Kindergarten students will celebrate it on Feb. 14, because their dear teachers do not want to miss out. They will be at a conference this Friday.
END OF THE DAY PROCEDURES AT EMERALD ELEMENTARY
Parents who Pick-Up students in grades 1-5 If you are picking up your child after school, you need to wait in the front lobby until 3:18 pm for them to walk down. Students will not be released from class until the 3:18 pm bell. Kindergarten Pick-Up Parents To elevate the congestion in the Kindergarten Hallway, we ask that you wait in the main lobby until the 3:18 pm bell rings. This will allow time for the bused students to walk past and for Pre-School parents to pick up their children. When the 3:18 pm bell rings, you may head to the Kindergarten room to pick up your child. The 1st grade hall at Emerald received some artwork all in the name of developing young leaders. This display reminds us all that we are leaders and we need to put those leadership skills to good use in helping ourselves, others and the community. Thank you to the ladies who spent hours after school painting and decorating the picture frames.
Emerald will hold a Jump Rope for Heart Assembly Friday morning (2/10/17). Jump Rope For Heart events are sponsored by the American Heart Association and the Society of Health and Physical Educators (SHAPE). These events engage elementary and middle school students with jumping rope while empowering them to improve their own health and help other kids with heart-health issues. This program is a great way to satisfy the physical education standards as determined by SHAPE America. Mrs. Eisinger will have students take part in Jump Rope activities throughout the month of February in Phys. Ed. class.
Communication is the most important skill in life. You spend years learning how to read and write, and years learning how to speak. But what about listening? The 1st graders at Emerald put on a wonderful performance and song regarding listening skills and that you should seek to understand, then be understood. Too many times in our lives we try to get our point across first and fail to listen to others who may have great ideas and/or thoughts to make a plan better. Habit 5 reminds us that we need to Seek 1st to Understand, then to be Understood. Below are some photos of the assembly.
The 4th and 5th grade students at Emerald did a wonderful job competing in the Spelling Bee! Congratulations to the 5th graders moving on! Like Mr. Ryan said, the best way to practice spelling is by reading, reading & reading! Below are the 5th graders receiving their trophies.
Kindergarten students really enjoyed their gym time on scooters with hockey sticks. It was a fun game to watch and all the students were engaged and having fun. Take time at home to invent fun activities to do outside with your child to promote an active lifestyle. Thank You to the Manistique Kiwanis for funding the scooter Hockey Sticks!
