Winter Weather RULES
Starting on Dec. 12 and ending on April 1, students wearing boots may play on the play structure and field. Students wearing their shoes they wear inside will be required to stay on the basketball court. Boots are defined as outerwear items placed on their feet that are not worn in school during the school day. Almost all of the children have gym shoes to wear during the day in school. Parents please remind your child to keep a pair of shoes at school. Snow pants: When snow is on the ground students will need to wear snow pants to play on the play structures and field. If a student does not have snow pants, they are to remain on the basketball court. Snow Plow Snow Pile: during the course of winter there will be a large snow hill on the basketball court. At no time are students allowed on the hill. Recess will be outside every day UNLESS the wind chill is 0 degrees Fahrenheit or colder. The temperature will be based on The Weather Channel app from the phone of the aides on duty. When checking the Weather Channel on your computer make sure the website is "refreshed" to include the most up to date temp. RECESS TIME: Winter Coats, Hats & Gloves Families: Please make sure your children bring winter coats , hats and gloves for recess. The winter months are here. Outdoor recess is an important part of the school day for children.
YEARBOOK ORDERS DUE Dec. 12 Flyers were sent home to order yearbooks for the 2016/17 school year. Yearbooks are $10.00 or you can build your own at additional costs. If you need an extra flyer/order form, you may pick one up in the office. Elk's Hoop Shoot - Sat. Dec. 10 Free throw shooting contest for boys and girls ages 8-13. Saturday, Dec. 10 @ 3:00pm. LOCATION: Manistique High School Gym Emerald 3rd graders kicked off December with a school-wide assembly about Habit 3 (Put 1st Things 1st). The students performed a skit in front of the other grade levels to share what it takes to put 1st things 1st. The play included magicians trying to fit "fun" and "important" items into a container. When the magicians wanted to do the "fun" things first, they could not fit the "important" items into the container. Once they figures out their priorities by placing the "important" items in the container 1st; they then had enough room to fit the "fun" stuff.
Snow white made an appearance and asked each of her dwarf friends to play; but each one responded that they had to do their chores 1st before they could take part in fun activities. RECAP: Everybody has tasks s/he does not like. Recognizing when these tasks are so important they have become ‘the first thing’ and doing them first is what disciplined people do. But being disciplined is also about not doing tasks when they do not have priority. Ms. PE-NUT stopped in today to visit with some classrooms and show the students some fun and healthy ways to make snacks. In Kindergarten students made and tasted veggie pizzas with english muffins, pizza sauce, shredded carrot, arugula, pine apple, snap peas and shredded cheese! I stopped in to see her when she was with a fourth grade class making a healthy smoothie that contained bananas, graham crackers, soy butter, milk, honey and carrot juice. Below are some photos.
Last evening, The Emerald K/1 students performed their annual Christmas Musical. Once again, it was a show stopper performance! Mrs. Christi Ryan and Ms. Ashlee Eisinger out did themselves in prepping the students in dance, singing and acting! Thank you for your time and dedication to the performing arts at Manistique Area Schools. I would also like to thank Mrs. Richey, Ms. LaMuth, Mrs. Dougherty and Ms. Gauthier for helping out during rehearsal and the evening performance.
