SCIENCE 7:
Exploring Motion Simulation Investigation: We looked at Force and how Mass and Acceleration pay a factor. Click on the simulation activity from September 7 RECAP to try out the Motion portion of the website. Based on Force and mass, we can calculate the acceleration rate. We can also find the speed of an object when acceleration and time is provided (s =a x t). SCIENCE 8: Students filled out a My College Options Survey for Manistique Area Schools. 7 & 8: Return your Handbook and Technology Agreement forms onto your 1st hour class.
SCIENCE 7: Used the force simulator link from Sept. 7 RECAP and worked on pages 1 & 2 (NET FORCE). SCIENCE 8: Assessment on reading over Zebra Mussels article and Scientific Vocabulary that was discussed throughout the week.
SCIENCE 7:
Students began to understand that the motion of objects depends on the sum of the forces on the object and the mass of the object.
SCIENCE 8: Watched the video clip below regarding Survival of the Fittest in regards to Pocket mice in living in the desert.
7 & 8: Sign and Turn in Technology and Handbook Agreement forms to your 1st hour teacher by Friday, September 8. 7th GRADE SCIENCE: Reviewed Newton's 3rd Law from Sept. 5 and handed out 6th grade Science notebooks. Click on this website for a cool interactive simulator on FORCES!: https://phet.colorado.edu/sims/html/forces-and-motion-basics/latest/forces-and-motion-basics_en.html 8th GRADE SCIENCE: How do traits impact survival rates?
Grade 7 & 8 Info:
7th grade: Newton's 3rd Law of Motion: "For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction". 7th graders reviewed Newton's 3 -Laws of motion and read and article on how Newton's 3rd Law relates to Lebron Jame's dunking a basketball. Students are learning the concept of applying force to move a mass and the more massive something, the more force is applied. Lebron James and other basketball players apply force to the basket ball court through their muscles to jump. The article also discussed body fat and muscle. THE BOARD QUESTIONS: What is the difference between weight and mass? What is the average percent body fat for an adult? 8th grade: Zebra Mussels and Adaptation: 8th graders learned about adaptation and how it can apply to their every day living and where they go. They then read and discussed an article about Zebra Mussels as an invasive species. They learned how the invasions was noticed in the Hudson River and how that connects all the way to lake Michigan. THE BOARD QUESTIONS: How many feet above sea level is Lake Michigan? |
